Early Morning, Zabriskie Point
Arriving just before sunrise at Zabriskie Point, I was immediately taken back by the shapes and colors of its eroded and tortured ridges. The dark-colored material capping the ridges is lava from eruptions that occurred three to five million years ago. There was just something so outer-worldly from this view.
Zabriskie Point is a part of the Amargosa Range located east of Death Valley in Death Valley National Park. It was named after Christian Brevoort Zabriskie, vice-president and general manager of the Pacific Coast Borax Company in the early 20th century.
Death Valley National Park is part of the Mohave and Colorado Desert UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
