Gold Shop in the Grand Bazaar
Everybody loves a bazaar; the activity, the colors and the sellers hawking their wares, makes for an enjoyable time. Istanbul's Grand Bazaar is no exception. I marveled at the gold shops, with jewelry of intricate design, the silk shops, the lamp shops, and perhaps most of all the spice shops; the wonderful smells of the spices is still vivid in my memory.
The Grand Bazaar (Büyük Çarsi) is a historic sprawling network of indoor souks & market streets peddling leather, jewelry & gifts, with 61 covered streets and over 4,000 shops. The construction of the future Grand Bazaar's core started during the winter of 1455/56, shortly after the Ottoman conquest of Constantinople.
