Joshua Tree Spring Wildflowers
This year is turning out to be a banner year for wildflowers. As I was driving to the entrance of Joshua Tree National Park, just off I-10 on Cottonwoods Spring Road, I spotted this beautiful display of wildflowers. The display was just spectacular and after the previous spring where there was very little, this was inspiring and welcome.
Joshua Tree National Park is divided into two distinct desert ecosystems, the Mojave and the Colorado. In the park a fascinating variety of plants and animals make their homes in a landscape sculpted by strong winds and occasional rain. The park is named for the Joshua trees native to the Mojave Desert. Originally declared a national monument in 1936, Joshua Tree was redesignated as a national park in 1994.
