Bruges Municipal Theater
I passed by this wonderful neo-Renaissance building everyday during my visit to Bruges, and I enjoyed the way the building sat, regally, and partially separated from its neighbors, as if separated for a higher purpose. On this particular morning, the weather had cleared up a little, the sun was shining, so I took the opportunity for a quick photo. One of things I love about Belgium is how widespread bicycles are used for transportation and determined to include them, in order to set the scene.
The Bruges City Theater (Stadstheater, 1869) is one of the best preserved theaters in Europe and was fully restored in 2001. Behind the austere, neo-Renaissance façade conceals a majestic auditorium and a palatial lobby in an eclectic style.
