Firostefani by Night

The late afternoon sun sets off the brilliant whites of the town of Firostefani, on the island of Santorini. This image was taken from the sun deck of my hotel, the Ira Resort and Spa, just a little before sunset, and is directed towards the town of Fira.

While Firostefani village is often considered a separate settlement, it is actually an extension of Fira. Fira is the modern capital of the Greek Aegean island of Santorini. A traditional settlement, "Fira" derives its name from an alternative pronunciation of "Thira", the ancient name of the island itself.
