Old Town Square Dining at the Heidelberg Rathaus
The day I visited here was German Reunification Day, and all the restaurants were doing a booming business with people drinking and eating on this memorable day. There are a number of dining areas in front of the Rathaus (Town Hall), serviced by hotels and restaurants lining the square.
The original Rathaus (Town Hall) was destroyed during the War of the Palatinate Succession which left left much of the city, as well as the original Town Hall, in ruins. Work on a new Rathaus (shown above in the background) began in 1701.
