The Portara and Naxos Town
I've seen multiple pictures of the Portara as I was researching my trip to Greece. So, I knew that after I got off the ship that I needed to go there. During my time on Naxos, I visited this site several times. There doesn't seem much to it, but it's the location contrasted with the ruins that makes this a spot worthy of multiple visits.
The Portara stands on Palatia, which was once a hill but is now a separate little island connected to Naxos by a causeway. The Portara is the entrance to an unfinished temple that faces directly toward Delos, Apollo's birthplace.
